Interview with a London based Nanny

Interview with Bethany who is based in Barnes, London and has been with her current family with two school aged children for the past 3.5 years.

What is it like being a nanny?

I love the children unconditionally, but you don’t always get to see them growing up, but I do it anyway because I love the job, for me it is the best job in the world.

What is the best part of your rol
Story time, bath time, the nighttime routine in general.

What is the worst part of your role?
ironing. I hate ironing.

Are the children spoilt?
Some are,  some are really bad, but there is always a way to teach them the value of things.

What are the common misconceptions of being a nanny?
We are all like Mary Poppins all singing and dancing and laughing. That we get treated like staff by everyone but lots of people have total respect for us.

Do you have any key tips or advice for people getting into the profession?
When your interviewing, make sure you interview the family as much as they are interviewing you. The last thing you want to do is work for a horrible family that don’t appreciate you, there are some fantastic families out there who are an absolute pleasure to work for.
